PS3 to PS4, Xbox 360 to Xbox One

Moving your character from last-gen consoles to new-gen consoles is a bit of a pain.

Here's the full process.

Export Your Save from Diablo 3

1. Launch Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition.
2. Download and install patch 1.0.3 for Diablo 3.
3. Log in to your Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) or Xbox Live (XBL) account.
4. Proceed to the main menu. Navigate to "More" > "Export Save."
5. Confirm this selection and proceed through any prompts that appear.
   

Import Your Save to Ultimate Evil Edition:

1. Log in to the same SEN or XBLaccount from which you exported your save.
2. Launch Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition.
   

Once you've done that, the game will now scan Blizzard's servers for your exported save data and load it.

Note that if you launched Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition on your new platform before you exported, you have to manually import the save.

It's less annoying than it sounds.

Manually Import Your Save

1. Launch Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition.
2. Log into your Xbox Live or Sony Entertaintment Network account.
3. Proceed to the main menu. Navigate to "More" > "Export Save."
4. Confirm this selection and proceed through any prompts that appear.
   

PS3 to Xbox One, Xbox 360 to PS4

Transferring between Xbox and PlayStation requires a few extra steps, because you need to connect your Sony Entertainment Network and Xbox Live Accounts together.

Linking Your Sony Entertainment Network and Xbox Live Accounts:

1. Create an SEN and XBL account, if you don't already have both.
2. Visit http://battle.net/playstation.
3. Log in to Battle.net with your account, or create a new Battle.net account.
4. Press "Continue." You will be redirected to Sony.
5. Log in to your SEN account you'll be importing a save from (or exporting a save to).
6. Using the same browser, visit http://battle.net/xbox.
7. Press "Continue." You will be redirected to Microsoft.
8. Log in to the XBL account you’ll be importing a save from (or exporting a save to).
   

Once you've linked your SEN and Xbox Live accounts, you can follow all of the steps under the "PS3 to PS4, Xbox 360 to Xbox One" section to export and then import your save data.

If you have any pre-order bonuses from the first Diablo 3, you'll lose them if you move from PS3 to Xbox One or Xbox 360 to PS4. The former group will also lose access to PlayStation-exclusive content.
