I chose to use the max value only to simplify the math to make sure everyone gets it.
I chose not to include the 100 base or the damage from rubies again for simplicity.
Whether the games way is "right" or "wrong" is a matter of opinion. Maybe your missing something.
Do yourself a favor and just make a bunch of weapons. Roll the hell out of 'em. Look at the numbers yourself. See what you find.
As a guy who loves numbers, I appreciate your wanting to validate the numbers but there are other factors that may be skewing your view.
I have been playing this game for a few years now on multiple platforms, I've read countless webpages about it, but all in all, I learned far more from experimenting with gear myself and with another like-minded player. Find a friend whom you respect and you two bring stuff into the game and brainstorm over what you have and what you find and you will learn more than you realize.
In closing, If your not breaking stuff.......you're not trying hard enough
